The Coloradoan reports on local physician, Stacie Johns, who has raised guide dogs for California-based Guide Dogs for the Blind for eight years. She gets each puppy when they’re eight weeks old and raises them for about a year before the dogs move onto the final stage of their training, which lasts anywhere from two to four months. Johns’ current guide dog in training, Phantom, is a six month old yellow lab. Johns brings Phantom to her Kaiser Permanente office in Fort Collins, where he practices his guide dog smarts and doubles as a therapy dog to anxious patients and children.
