Colorado egg farmers were proud to help the Easter Bunny out this year. The seven local farms that make up the Colorado Egg Producers (CEP) Association donated nearly 325,000 eggs to food banks throughout Colorado to ensure those in need had eggs in time for Easter.
Of the total number of eggs, 140,000 were given to Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver this Thursday. The Easter Bunny made a special appearance at the event, entertaining children and families who were there to pick up their Easter eggs. The CEP team cooked and served free omelets to all the families, guests and organizations in attendance. In addition, Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies received 129,600 eggs and Weld Food Bank received 54,000 eggs.
CEP and Feeding America teamed up to help the more than 600,000 people who are at risk of hunger in Colorado. Of the families that Food Bank of the Rockies serves, 71 percent have incomes below the Federal Poverty Level and 44 percent have had to choose between buying food and paying for their rent or mortgage.
